Live updates as Edinburgh’s Chambers Street locked down in ongoing bomb scare

A bomb disposal truck has been spotted outside what the Crown Office on Chambers Street in Edinburgh. Police and the Scottish Fire and Rescue service have rushed to the scene where the ongoing incident has prompted a major response, with the street closed in both directions. A concerned eye witness reported a large emergency service presence around 12pm today and a bomb disposal van arrived a short time later.

Police have taped off the surrounding area and several Lothian Buses have been diverted while the incident is ongoing. A service alert on their website reads: "Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Clerk Street, Surgeon's Hall or Chambers Street and are instead diverted via Hope Park Terrace, Buccleuch Street, Potterrow and Forrest Road northbound only until further notice." Services 3, 30, 31, 33, 37 and many more are affected by the closure.

An image posted by nearby resident shows the whole street occupied by emergency services, with the incident appearing to be within the National Museum of Scotland.
