Police on scene as lorry strikes bridge in Hertford

A main road in Hertford is closed after a road collision involving a lorry. A lorry struck a railway bridge in Bengeo this morning (Saturday, May 14), causing long delays on roads nearby. Hertfordshire Constabulary are on the scene of the incident.

A picture of the incident showed the lorry is lodged under a bridge between Beane Road and Welwyn Road. It is unknown if there are any causalities in connection to this incident. As well as the road closed in direction, severe travel disruptions are being reported in the area.

The road has been closed to allow emergency services access, and is expected to remain closed for some time.

Please avoid the area where possible." Great Northern trains have also been affected. Services have been delayed and running slower than usual in the area.

A Great Northern spokesperson said on Twitter: "A lorry has collided with a bridge at Hertford North. Trains will be running at a slower speed than usual through the area. "This means your journey may be delayed by around 10-15 minutes." They added: You can still use your normal route, but please allow for some extra time.
