Eight wealthiest people in Yorkshire on Sunday Times Rich List 2022

The richest people in Yorkshire have been revealed. The Sunday Times Rich List, which is published in The Sunday Times magazine has just published its 34th annual edition, revealing the wealth of the 250 richest people and families in Britain including eight people with massive fortunes from our county. There are 177 billionaires in the UK recorded this year according to The Sunday Times, up 6 from 2021, a year-on-year increase that is also a record.

The combined wealth of the UK billionaires is GBP653.122 billion, up GBP55.853 billion, or 9.4 per cent, on the total wealth of the billionaires in last year's Rich List. We have put together a list of every Yorkshire -born or based millionaire and billionaire alongside their source of wealth. One entry to the list is the oldest person among the 250 richest published by The Sunday Times.

Tony Murray

French-born Tony Murray is the chairman of London Security PLC, a fire protection business based in Elland, West Yorkshire. He has a 2022 net worth of 2.53 billion and at 102 years old he is the oldest person on the list.

He began his fortune buying Nu-Swift, a Leeds manufacturer of fire extinguishers in 1982. He and his family also own Andrew Sykes Group - a heating and air-conditioning equipment hire company. Robert Miller - worth GBP2.2bn, up GBP200m

Robert Miller is an American-born British billionaire who co-founded the DFS group.

Not to be confused with the sofa manufacturer, the DFS Group is a Hong Kong-based travel retailer of luxury products, specifically duty-free. Mr Miller owns Gunnerside Estate in Yorkshire, one of the largest sporting country estates in Britain at covering 36,000 acres. Andy Currie - worth GBP2.118bn, down GBP102m

Andy Currie, director of the chemical and energy company Ineos was born in Doncaster. Andy runs Ineos with Sunderland-born John Reece. John is worth slightly less than Currie having a net worth of GBP2.107 billion based on Ineos stake.

Lord Kirkham - worth GBP1.14bn, no change

77-year-old Doncaster-born The Right Honourable Lord Kirkham is one of South Yorkshire's richest men. He is the founder and chairman of sofa retailer DFS. However, he sold DFS in 2010 and now owns shares in Iceland supermarkets.

He has also invested in the Whitby chain of fish and chip shops. Malcolm Healey - worth GBP1.35bn, down GBP77m

Malcolm Healey, from East Yorkshire, runs Wren Kitchens with his family, a privately owned British designer manufacturer, and retailer of kitchens. Malcolm is the brother of the late Eddie Healey, who owned Blue Energy, a leading renewable energy company

William Morrison - worth GBP927m, up GBP286m William Morrison and his family hail from Bradford. He has a net worth of GBP927 million as the owner and founder of the supermarket chain, Morrisons.

Paul Sykes - worth GBP775m, up GBP5m

Paul Sykes set up his first business at age 18 in Ripon, North Yorkshire selling the dismantled engines of old buses. Mr Sykes expanded his business into bus, coach and truck dealing in the North of England before branching out into property development. His most famous venture was the founding of the Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield, which was the largest shopping mall in the country.

Carol Healey - worth, 750m, down GBP23m The wife of Eddie Healey, Carol made her fortune in property and has a net worth of GBP750 million. She ran several businesses in Hull, East Yorkshire but has since resigned from most of the positions.
